I told myself two things in the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre.
1) I wouldnt post anything about the fucker who did it, only about the lives he destroyed
2) It wouldn’t take long until somebody blamed the media.
I’m breaking rule one today…for the only time. Beginning tomorrow, I will post only about the victims.
The rest of the world proved rule #2.
It was inevitable, right? I mean, Marilyn Manson caused Columbine. Grand Theft Auto causes car jackings. Rap music causes drug sales. Penthouse causes rape.
Whatever happened to the concept of EVIL?
The concept that one person can be so righteously fucked in the brain, rotten to the core, blackened of soul that they can do horrible unspeakable things to the world around them simply because that is what they are….EVIL. What happened to that?
I’m walking home from work tonight, and there it is, on the flashing news ticker at 12th and Walnut.
“Photos of killer with hammer emulate Korean film ‘Oldboy’. Coincidence?” (or something to that effect)
Now, I’ve seen “Oldboy“, and frankly I fucking loved it. Anyone whose known me for more than five minutes knows I’m a movie freak, and this movie is brilliant. Its the story of a man who is imprisoned for 15 years by captors he never sees, and then suddenly released to find his old life gone. And how he seeks revenge.
And yes, in one scene it features a hammer.
The only similarity between this movie and the picture that fuck took down at VA TECH is that both contain a hammer, and both contain an asian male. Thats it.
If this movie can be blamed….then why not old episodes of “This Old House” or “The New Yankee Workshop”? Fuck, for that matter, why not blame the entire DIY and Home & Garden Networks? They feature more hammers per capita than any old Korean flick, right?
Why do we always have to say “this” caused “that”???
Why is it so hard for us, in this society to simply say, HE WAS FUCKING CRAZY? HE WAS FUCKING EVIL?
Because thats what he was. An evil, crazy fuck.
And I hope he packed lightly, because it’ll be quite warm where he’s going.
