13 years old. And younger.
Think about that. Think of how young that is. How innocent. How naïve.
At that age, they are little more than babies comparatively speaking, their lives on this planet and collective experience amounting to what could be summed up in a two-hour movie of the week. The whole world before them, so much yet to experience, so much yet to see, do and learn, everything can be called “future”, very little qualifies as a “past”.
I know this first hand, you see, my own child turns 13 in a little more than a months time. As I type, I picture him in my mind and realize how fragile and in need of protection he still remains, how although nearly as tall as me, and with a voice deepening in preparation for manhood, he is barely beyond the fawn stage, taking those first staggering steps in a wide and unpredictable world.
This isn’t the empty prose of a father in love with his offspring, still overprotective and proud. This is reality. Think about it. Think of yourself at 13. 13 and younger. Think of your own children at that age if you have them. Compare that 13 year old mind with the one of an adult.
Maybe then you can imagine my anger, my hatred, my feeling that there needs be punishment and retribution of a near Biblical kind. Something that requires words that I don’t have the ability to summon up, words that speak to an “eye for an eye” or “a tooth for a tooth”. But, maybe that’s just me. Maybe I’m just filled with anger and am unable to see why others can remain calm.
I mean, how else can you explain a society in which this occurred? A city where this kind of thing went on and the neighbors didn’t gather like a posse with pitchforks at the ready to drive out these monsters and chase them over the precipice to their death and doom?
Lost are you? Don’t know of which I speak?
On November 9th, CNN reported:
A three-day federal crackdown on child prostitution rings across the country has resulted in the recovery of 69 children and the arrest of 884 people, including 99 pimps.
The three-day federal sweep, called Operation Cross Country V, involved 40 cities nationwide and is part of the Innocence Lost National Initiative, authorities said.
I’m not sure what angers me more…the fact that adults were paying to buy sex with children or the fact that someone was selling children to those perverts. Or worse yet, the fact that it was going on in 40 cities across the USA.
Cities like Seattle, Tacoma, Sacramento, Nashville and Minneapolis. We’re not talking East Bumfuck, some tiny little hick town in the ass end of nowhere with a population of 127 during the tourist season…we are talking large metropolitan areas. Areas where there are loads of neighbors, loads of prying eyes… and no one saw this going on? No one intervened to help these poor children before the federal government had to create a damn task force?
Seriously, people…is no one else appalled, angered and fit to kill over the fact that the problem is so widespread it requires a fucking TASK FORCE?
This speaks ill of our society.
Here we are, the richest most powerful country in the world, and we have gangs selling children for sex. This is something that you imagine goes on in some backwater third world country, something that you shake your head and “Tsk, tsk, tsk…” while looking down on the lowly, backwards inhabitants of that far off land and think, “We need to bring them into the 21st century…show them the error of their ways”.
This isn’t something you expect to find in Nashville. Or fucking Minneapolis.
Every single person connected to this enterprise, regardless of how low on the totem pole they were should be punished in a barbaric way. Something culled from the Dark Ages or the Inquisition. Something painful that ends in death.
If any adult connected to this thing had even the inkling of a whiff of a hint of a rumor that adults were having sex with children, they are a waste of space and breathable air. They have outlived their usefulness to humanity and should be culled from the herd as sure as the sun will rise. And we as a society shouldn’t feel a shred of remorse for doing it.
It takes a special kind of animal, a unique kind of monster, the lowest form of evil to do these kinds of things to a child.
And that evil should be removed from our midst, without fail.
13 years old.
Think about that.
